Yes, things are bad. We had a HUGE blow-up last weekend over getting the kids Jabbed. My wife is 1) a true-blue Covidian and 2) under the thrall of her BFF / BFF’s Pfizer hubby. They all “believe in science” kind of thing. Yelling, and blows were struck by both – though she swung first. (Absent her hitting me there’s no way I would have given one to her. This I swear.)
Then, I *reluctantly* agreed to let the kids get it, praying for a miracle. Dr. Coleman’s video about the Journal “Circulation” article was that miracle. It got bad, again, and I called the police. After the police left I went to talk with my lawyer. She went straight to the courthouse – this had to have been planned and researched, and I have no doubt at all the BFF had everything writtten down on what to do. She was at the courthouse, wrote, and filed within an hour of my leaving the house. IMHO this is not something that happens spontaneously. She was there and out before I could get there to file mine. I was at the police station to discuss the voluntary surrender of my firearms – which I knew one way or another would happen anyway – because being ahead of that curve would, I thought, look good for me voluteering to do this.
So now I am out of the house. I cannot see or even text my kids, nor reply if they text me. Hashem only knows what they think, though the last text I have from my daughter is I love u. Hashem also knows what she’s dripping into their ears. Given her vindictive nature, it’s nothing good. And she swore to destroy everything of mine – massive numbers of irreplaceables still there.
Hopefully at the hearing coming up – not soon enough! – perhaps things can be undone and possibly even she goes under a RO. Omitting many details, there are official police records of her physical aggression towards me from very early in the relationship. And other documentation I’m working to gather to show she’s not “right” in the head and so on. My biggest fear is that she had NO IDEA of all that I did in the background for the house, and now having to do them all herself will cause her to snap and take it out on the kids. But, legally, there’s precious little I can do except wait. If I’m lucky she’ll hit the kids, they tell their teacher, and now the balance tips towards me.

Answer: It is perceived as criticism. And perception is reality. So good intensions fall away in the struggle to control the narrative and are replaced by the self-serving “who asked ya”?
Nitzackhon, when our dear leader Surakvulcan acknowledged me in the same sentence as you, I knew I had risen in the firmament of our band of individualists (along with “Wolfie”, bless his heart). But I also realized that with great regard also comes great responsibility; so here goes: many years ago (35) I went through a divorce from the mother of my children. The details are similar to your own, but not germane to my purpose here, which is to share what I learned from the experience (“What doesn’t kill you makes for a great warning to others”).
Although I see you as a decent, giving, and honourable person, do not expect justice in a court of law, where the current zeitgeist favours one sex over the other. Rather, strive for a collaborative settlement (through a specialist ‘collaborative’ lawyer). Explain that now, with your road in life parting, whatever can be salvaged emotionally/financially should be divvied up between you, with an eye to your mutual responsibility to your children. Lawyers are notoriously expensive and your best value will arise when they are used to reach an amicable settlement between you. However, it takes a remarkable woman to not let her emotions rule her decision-making, and she may well insist on adversarial combat in the arena of life (as mine did, especially since I was the sole breadwinner and paid for her lawyer).
Your best defense in that case is the path you have already taken: honour. To the best of your (human) ability, strive to be beyond reproach. As Sam Ervin said during Watergate, “not only must justice be done, it must be seen to be done”. The adversarial resolution of a dispute involves making the other side wrong, independent of actually being wrong. Don’t be. Consult your trusted advisors to find the right lawyer to make your case. Above all, do not disparage your ex in front of your children. Let her, in her anger, do that, for it will come back to bite her. To this day, one of my sons cannot stand gossip (he will indignantly stop the conversation and leave), where the merits of someone is being judged by others. Further, if someone disparages another that you know well, your own judgment of that someone is diminished.
So be of good cheer Nitzackhon, and fight the good fight: for your honour, your dignity (which no one can take away from you) and your children. Expect the worst and hope for the best. And thank you for sharing the intimate details of the pending dissolution of your marriage; our bonds of affinity are strengthened by you. At least in marriage you can get a divorce, which isn’t the worst thing: that would be an un- dissolved adversarial business partnership.
